There’s a lot going on in this beer. Almost smells of red wine vinegar! Loads of flavours makes for a memorable and interesting drink – but not a session beer!

This beer really put the cat among the pigeons. To me it tasted slightly akin to balsamic vinegar. Which was certainly an interesting and unexpected flavour profile. I’m not convinced this is really for me, but it is most certainly different.

Aroma is of soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and malt. Pours a light rich brown in the glass. This is one of the most unusual beers I’ve ever drank. Its starts with a very intense fruity burst of orchard fruits, that leads in to the vinegar sharpness and sourness of balsamic. On the finish you also get a sweet and sour blackberry and grape flavour. I can appreciate this beer for what it is and I’m glad I tried it, but the flavours are just not for me.

What can I say? It’s deep red/dark amber colour with a creamy coloured head, that doesn’t hang around. It’s got aromas of raisin and black currant with a sharpness to it. It tastes of raisins, grapes, currants with a sweetness of a good balsamic. It’s similar to the Rodenbach grand cru but a little sharper. Very good indeed

There's a lovely strength and sourness to this -if that's your thing then I think this is an 'after dinner' must have.
Duchesse de Bourgogne is an ale of mixed fermentation. It is a sweet-fruity ale with a pleasant fresh aftertaste. This ale is brewed with roasted malts and with hops with a low bitterness. After the main fermentation and the lagering , this brew matures further for many months in oak casks. The tannins in the oak give this beer its fruity character.
