Verdant beers are normally great, this one is just decent. Session strength IPAs serve a useful purpose but always feel a bit disappointing when you know how good they could be if they were a touch stronger.

I can’t help thinking tennis balls, which is mostly to do with the can, but even when you pop it you’re hit with a pungent smell not dissimilar to a freshly popped can of tennis balls. Just hoppier. The beer itself is very clever, 8% DIPA flavours in a 4.5% brew. It’s like a beer MP3, it’s discarded some of the subtle high notes and low end – the barely perceptible bits – and delivered the core experience of a DIPA without the hangover. It also makes it less cloying and more refreshing than a big, thick DIPA. You could definitely session a few of these. I thought it was great.

Smooth citrus on the nose, grassy then banana milkshake flavours! Smooth aftertaste.
Depth of flavour is exceptional for a session ale – stellar.
Hop City returns for 2018, let us not fall into the same trap. Drinking double IPA’s all day is a mistake, so we bring you a session beer, a quiet charge, if you like.
