Aromas of smoked meat. Pours a dark caramel colour in the glass. This is definitely a bit wild in terms of taste. Starts medium bodied, earthy and roasted, with a smooth mouthfeel and light carbonation. Then a meaty smokiness comes in, that’s almost like a deli meat in taste. This would be weird if it wasn’t offset nicely by a bitter malt. It ends on this mixture of malt, bitterness and smoke. Some of the traditional style beers you get from mainland Europe are absolutely mad, but I’ve liked most that I’ve tried and you can’t argue with tried and tested flavour combinations.

Cracking beer, perfect for sitting next to the fire on those cold winter nights. Smokey, rich and dark beer. Packed with flavour and a treat for the tastebuds.
A smoked bock beer for Bamberg’s strong beer season (October through December). Matured for months in ancient rock-cellars underneath Bamberg and tapped freshly from the oakwood cask. Similar to, but much bigger than the classic Maerzen style.
