Promised a lot of taste but it wasn’t overpowering in anyway – also quite easy drinking for the strength. I couldn’t detect any flavours from the barrel ageing.

The description promised something big, it was let down by the flavour just a little though.

Wonderful. Lager bitterness, woody notes and lots of malt but no 'burnt' taste. Suitable alcohol sweetness, rum aroma rather than flavour, suits me fine Lovely thick mouthfeel and pours dark, but it's a lager and it tastes like a lager, not a stout. A definite fave.

Nice this, really enjoyed it

Excellent, strangely refreshing ,satisfying, dark beer

Refreshing for a dark lager

Super dark, malty lager

Total depth of flavour, so many different things going on so every mouthful was an experience

Aroma of spiced rum and roasted malt. Pours a cola colour in the glass. Starts rich and malty with lots of roasty notes. There’s subtle notes of sweet rum running through it in the background and it ends on a light, clean and toasty malt finish. Could maybe do with the rum being a little stronger.

An absolutely delicious brew, full of complexity of flavour. It is to me at least most reminiscent of a fine rye bread, a perfect balance of earthy and smooth.

23-04-2020- 4.25 out of five- excellent BA flavours come through on this black lager- powerful
Daniel –
As often is the case with rum barrel ageing it's very rum forward but it blends very well with the dark malty flavours

It's an interesting idea for a beer and one that I haven't seen anywhere else so it was interesting to try and I would certainly have similar beers in the future.

Dark and flavourful like a stout or porter but light in mouthfeel and bubbly like a larger
Colin –
So tasty, deep but refreshing

Very good. Smooth chocolate and caramel notes with a hint of rum.

Not as much of a punch-in-the-face as 7.3% would have your expect.

Really enjoyed this, good blast of rum

A first for me, a barrel aged schwarzbier. The barrel aging certainly creates impressive depth of flavour but the alcohol was just a touch more pronounced than I would have liked, otherwise a 5* beer

Delicious – sounds as though it’s going to be odd but it works. Powerful stuff too.

It was a odd – perhaps I don't have a sophisticated enough pallet, but I couldn't get the sense of the rum barrels at all. That said, this is decent beer.

tasted to bitter for me, again another one ended ups down the sink
