This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity.

Delicious. First time I’ve had it and will definitely have it again
Anton –
very good oude bruin; not too sour, a little sweet.
Robbie –
For a mass produced beer, this is really good. Complex, deep flavours. Will definitely buy this again.

It’s a gorgeous deep amber/ruby colour with a cream coloured head (which doesn’t stick around too long). There’s a great aroma of sharp acidity, but in a good way. Like a good quality balsamic vinegar. The taste is where it really sparks to life though. There’s raisins, dark fruits, sourness, sweetness and a little lingering sour bitterness. It is all this and more. My favourite beer of all time.
Rob –
Strong sour notes, with sweet cherry. Crystal clear. Taste is initially sweet fruit, with acidic sour in the tail.

This one is an acquired taste

The standard for a Flanders Red.

Excellent Flanders Red Ale! Very rich and acidic with a little fruity kick to take the edge off!
Kevin –
Fruity tartness and a big sour balsamic acidity to follow. Excellent Flanders.
Jonny –
I love a flanders red and this is one of the best I’ve had.
James –
A fine Flanders Red… but nothing can match the Duchesse.
Clément –
Very traditional, one of my favourite Belgian ales (along with Duchesse de Bourgogne)

What is there to say about this classic beer. Aged in oak foeders for years then beautifully blended. Ive tried many copies of this fine beer and although there are some good attempts, this still stands as the marker for excellence. True beer perfection.

Really not my thing

Gets the blend between sweet and sour perfectly, something that remains almost unmatched among so many sour beers. If anything, it tastes like a good red wine with its deep, fruity flavour. Excellent.
