After hopping around the beer spectrum in this series, Northern Monk wanted to revisit the paler side and brew another lighter IPA. In terms of ABV we aimed for 3.5%, lower than some of the previous in the series but harnessing everything they learnt from similar low ABV beers such as Striding Edge, the only patrons to make it into core range!
The aim was to make the beer super sessionable, yet super flavoursome. Oats add body, and a touch of Light Munich malt makes a light yet full bodied base for a dry hop that combines the huge flavours of Simcoe, Topaz and Mosaic. By increasing the whirlpool addition to double what they usually do for their low ABV beers, the Monks looked to add depth of flavour and aroma. Expect upfront citrus, subtle hints of berry and a solid backbone of resinous pine.

Lots of flavour given the low ABV.
Tristan –
Light and thin, but still great hoppy fruity flavour, and slight haze. 4.25 stars

5 stars because for 3.5%, it has a big flavour – great story and another great Patron’s series beer!
