May Bank Holiday Beer Picks
May 25, 2016 Brody

Here at HonestBrew we love a good bank holiday! Not only does it free up our calendars so we can pencil in more valuable beer ‘research’, but it also allows us the opportunity to introduce friends, family and basically anyone who’ll listen to us get all gooey about our favourite tipples of the moment. Therefore, it’s only fair that we share those recommendations with fellow craft beer lovers (that’s you!) so you can can build a one-off box of beers and guarantee a long weekend filled with incredible brews.

Time and Tide – Spratwaffler – Pale Ale 3.7%

Time and Tide’s mission is to bring you incredible beers that excite your palate and make you smile. Creating and experimenting are tried and tested passions at the brewery, as are discovering new ways to bring you amazing beer with distinctive twists. Sometimes you have to think a little outside the box to create something extraordinary! This Spratwaffler Pale Ale is one such extraordinary beer. Light, zesty and tropical, this ale pours golden amber and surely won’t last long.

Siren – Proteus – IPA 6.9%

Planning on telling some tales this weekend? Stories of vast oceans, storm beaten galleons and unexplainable creatures from the depths – you should wash all that seafaring folklore down with a exceedingly special beer. Siren’s Proteus is a pale ale series devised to make the most of three hops, with this volume using Motueka, Amarillo and Citra. Siren have brewed three pale ales using this combination and their favourite recipe has been dialled up to IPA level for this special release. A punchy, citrus aroma draws you into waves of tropical fruit, pine and no shortage of bitterness on the back-end. Take a sip and dive a little deeper into great British beer.

Wylam v Left Handed Giant – Ctrl Alt Del – Altbier 4.9%

This weekend Wylam are celebrating the grand opening of their new brewery in the Palace of Arts in Newcastle’s Exhibition Park. The space will not only be home to outstanding beer but various collaborations between Wylam and artists of all different genres and styles. Celebrate this spirit of collaboration with a bottle of Ctrl Alt Del. Wylam & Bristol’s Left Handed Giant came together to create a Dusseldorf Altbier. Expect toffee and caramel sweetness, intriguing herbal notes and a refreshing fruitiness. Cheers Wylam, here’s to a future of wonderful brews.

Buxton – Trolltunga – Gooseberry Sour IPA 6.3%

A true HonestBrew favourite! Sour beers look set to be all the rage this summer – they may even give the mighty IPA a run for its money. Why not board the hype train early and enjoy this incredible Trolltunga sour IPA over the long weekend. A collaboration with Lervig Aktiebryggeri (the Nords behind Lucky Jack IPA) Buxton’s marrying of popular yet unique styles offers a wonderfully balanced brew that remains challenging and totally individual. Trolltunga is a jutting rock in Norway, hanging 700 metres over lake Ringedalsvatnet. Only the wary tread the path to the very edge. Planning on taking a walk on the wild side this weekend? Toast your arrival with a Trolltunga.

Beavertown Bloody ‘Ell Howler

Beavertown take a stripped back IPA malt bill and highly hop it with the tropics of Amarillo and Citra and pile head on with kilos of Blood Orange zest and juice late in the boil, bringing you a smack of citrus and hints of warm orange aromas. One their most popular seasonal brews, Beavertown will be canning Bloody ‘Ell until the blood oranges run dry! Particularly great at this time of year thanks to the flavour of late season blood oranges, it only makes sense to grab a handy Howler packed with three cans of this vitamin C packed brew – you might even want to share one!
