It’s a simple fact that us at Honest Brew freaking love music festivals. So when we were approached by Lee of Leefest fame to help curate the Craft Beer Bar for Leefest 2014, we were stoked to say the least. Not just because we love music almost as much as we love beer, but also because the whole ethos behind Leefest – having fun, bringing people together and sharing knowledge – is something we strongly identify with.
Plus we love the story.
With the parents away on holiday back in 2006, Lee decided to have a festival in the backyard. Turnout was cracking, his dad found it funny when he inevitably found out, so they did it again the following year, featuring a guest appearance from a porta-loo and an even bigger turnout. His mum called time on backyard usage by year three, so they shifted to the local school and upgraded the loo count to 6. By their fourth year they had around 70 volunteers, booked their first professional artists and pulled it of so well they won Best Grassroots Festival at the UK Festival Awards.
Since then, Leefest has gone from strength to strength surviving both Council threats and the London riots, prioritising quality over size and always donating profits to charity (some of whom include KidsCo Charity, Save the Children and Teenage Cancer Trust). An example of grassroots growth at its finest.
In curating the Craft Beer Bar, we’re doing our best to roll with the Leefest Ethos. Alongside each of the beers you’ll see our tasting notes as well as a bit about the brewery. Plus one of our team will be hovering around the bar at certain times throughout the weekend to chat to anyone who wants to know a bit more about the beers specifically or brewing in general.
Have a nosey at the line up (the beer line up, that is):
