Our craft beer Advent Calendars are being sent out now, which means you’ll be able to taste our amazing collab beers very soon. We’re delighted to have Boundary, Howling Hops, Cloudwater & Signature Brew all creating exclusive brews, and can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of them!
We’ve caught up with the brewers to hear all about these brilliant new beers, as well as find out a bit more about the people behind the brews. This week, we chatted to the gang at Signature Brew and heard all about what to expect from the forthcoming seasonal special!
For anyone who isn’t familiar with Signature Brew can you tell them what you’re all about?
Hello! We’re Signature Brew and since 2011 we’ve created award-winning, music-inspired beers and collaborated with some of the world’s best musicians at our East London brewery.
We’re on a mission to revolutionise the quality of beer at live music events by bringing our exciting core range of music-inspired craft beers (Roadie, Studio Lager, Backstage IPA and Nightliner) to the best bars, venues and festivals in the UK and beyond.
Your musical leanings have helped resulted in some outstanding collaboration beers in the past, who have you worked alongside, and where’s best to try some of these brews out?
As well as previously winning SIBA’s highly prestigious Brewery Business of the Year, we’re also the world’s number one brewery for band collaboration beers, having brewed with Mastodon, alt-J, Mogwai, Frank Turner, Rodney P, Enter Shikari and over 25 other renowned artists. The bands we work with generally get VERY hands-on with the brewing, we’ve had Mercury Prize winners digging out the mash tun and platinum-selling artists pulling pints on our bar.
The best way for you to experience our beers is by grabbing some here on HonestBrew or visiting either our brewery in Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow (open Friday evening and all day Saturday & Sunday). We’ve also got the Signature Taproom & Venue in Haggerston (open 7 days a week and featuring lots of live music) and our Walthamstow taproom and restaurant The Collab (We Serve Humans do the food, they’ve won Best Burger In Britain and Best Buffalo Wings before… so make sure you go there hungry).
Anyway, that’s enough about us… let’s talk about beer.
Yes, let’s! Can you tell us all about the collab?
Well, we’ve been friends for many years, so we both thought it was about time we brewed a collaboration beer together. How did it turn out? Well, like a powerful acoustic act, this refreshingly stripped-back beer delivers a lower ABV without compromising on flavour.
A raw, honest and intimate performance, Unplugged has a surprising amount of body for a micro IPA, drawing comparisons to a mini New England. Centennial, Chinook and Mosaic hops bring tropical fruit salad flavours, while wheat and oats bulk out that hazy body.
The can design features an abstract and up-close photo of an acoustic guitar neck: frets, strings and all. We thought it tied in nicely to the beer’s name and theme and we think it looks pretty smart too. Sit down, unplug, enjoy.
For a beer on the lower side of ABVs, it certainly packs a lot of flavour! What other beers would you recommend to Signature Brew newbies?
We’ve just rebranded our multi award-winning core range Roadie all-night IPA, Studio Lager, Backstage IPA and Nightliner Coffee Porter so we definitely recommend picking them up and getting up-close-and-personal with the new can art. They’re all tasting even better than ever since we moved to our new state-of-the-art brewery in Walthamstow.
Elsewhere, we’d recommend Reverb, a hazy 6% ABV New England IPA and Anthology Second Edition a hefty 10% ABV Imperial Stout. We also have some incredible new seasonal and band collaboration beers coming up… but we can’t talk about those just yet unfortunately!
Unplugged is an exclusive collaboration beer between HonestBrew & Signature Brew and is available in our Advent Calendar along with 3 other limited edition collaborations.
